When did you fall

I downloaded this Chris Rice song a couple of weeks back but didn’t have a chance to really listen to it. Today at work I plugged in my earphones and then couldn’t stop smiling as I heard this song. It is the cutest song I’ve heard in a while. It’s upbeat and full of lyrics that bring to mind the period of my courtship – sigh! Being in love is such a heady feeling isn’t it? Here are the words:

You’re all smiles and silly conversation
As if this sunny day came just for you
You twist your hair, you smile and you turn your eyes away
C’mon, tell me what’s right with you
Now it dawns on me probably everybody’s talkin’
And there’s something here I’m supposed to realize
‘Cause your secret’s out, and the universe laughs at it’s joke on me
I just caught it in your eyes, it’s a beautiful surprise
Chorus:
When did you fall in love with me?
Was it out of the blue
‘Cause I swear I never knew it
When did you let your heart run free?
Have you been waiting long?
When did you fall in love with me?
When did you fall in love?

Make your way over here, sit down by this fool, and let’s rewind
C’mon, let’s go back and replay all our scenes
You can point out the hints, the clues, the twists and the smiles this time
All the ones that slipped by me
I bet my face is red, and you can hear my heart poundin’
Well I guess it don’t matter now that I realize
‘Cause baby I missed it then, but I can surely see you now
Right there before my eyes
You’re my beautiful surprise

Chorus:

Was it at the coffee shop
Or that morning at the bus stop
When you almost slipped, and I caught your hand
Or the time we built the snowman
The day at the beach, sandy and warm
Or the night with the scary thunderstorm
I never saw the signs
Now we’ve got to make up for lost time
And I can tell now by the way that you’re looking at me
I’d better finish this song so my lips will be free

Have you been waiting long, when did you fall in love
I kept you waiting so long, when did you fall
Have you been waiting long
When did you fall in love with me
When did you fall in love?

Into the day (it’s over now)

Fighting yourself can never be easy. I’ve realized that as I’ve crawled deeper into the darkness, knowing it’s wrong and knowing that I’ve turned further away from God’s grace. And yet, it calls, entices and draws me in. This morning I heard this Bebo Norman song, but I am not sure I’m into the day yet; I’m not sure it’s over yet. Not sure when it will happen but I will hold on..

You could turn a hundred years and never empty all your fears
They’re pouring out like broken words and broken bones
They could fill a thousand pages, be the cry for all the ages
And the song for every soul who stands alone
The ache of life is more than you are able

Hold on love, don’t give up
Don’t close your eyes
The light is breaking through the night

Deep Enough

Wow… I have really been away for a while. The vacation to CA rejuvenated and tired me out. I have to write about all the adventures we had on our vacation but first here is the song that touched me today. Deep Enough by Chris Rice. It’s funny because I always think of it as my “summer song” – it brings to mind childhood memories where everything seemed so “susegad” which loosely translated from Konkani means “laid-back”. Warm breeze on the beach by my grandparent’s home, the smell of sweet mangoes in the air and the feeling of floating away….. into a place where you could literally see God. Aaah.. here are the lyrics and of course the foodie that I am my favorite lines are the wedding feast part.. just kidding!

Lazy summer afternoon
Screened in porch and nothin’ to do
I just kicked off my tennis shoes
Slouchin’ in a plastic chair
Rakin’ my fingers through my hair
I close my eyes and I leave them there
And I yawn, and sigh, and slowly fade away

Deep enough to dream in brilliant colors
I have never seen
Deep enough to join a billion people
For a wedding feast
Deep enough to reach out and touch
The face of the One who made me
And oh, the love I feel, and oh the peace
Do I ever have to wake up

Awakened by a familiar sound
A clumsy fly is buzzin’ around
He bumps the screen and he tumbles down
He gathers about his wits and pride
And tries again for the hundredth time
‘Cause freedom calls from the other side
And I smile and nod, and slowly drift away

Deep enough to dream in brilliant colors
I have never seen
Deep enough to join a billion people
For a wedding feast
Deep enough to reach out and touch
The face of the One who made me
And oh, the love I feel, and oh the peace
Do I ever have to wake up

‘Cause peace is pouring over my soul
See the lambs and the lions playin’
I join in and I drink the music
Holiness is the air I’m breathin’
My faithful heroes break the bread
And answer all of my questions
Not to mention what the streets are made of
My heart’s held hostage by this love…. (to chorus)
