Lent 2007

Today I will attend the last Way of the Cross this year. Next week we begin the last leg of our Lenten trek into the holiest week of our religious calendar. I have always loved Easter more than Christmas. More so after coming to the US, where Christmas is not even about Christ anymore. Lent in India brings back memories of completely abstaining from meat, fasting on Fridays and gathering in church for the Way of the Cross. Lent is meant to be reflective; allowing us to contemplate and bring into sharp focus God and His supreme sacrifice. This year has been a tough one for me – I have moved far and away from God in many ways and through it all I have reached out and He has spoken to me. I have been like a naughty child who has walked towards the fire, over and over again,  while the Father has tut-tutted and held me back from burning. Next week I will walk into a confessional and ask for forgiveness for all the things that I know have brought a frown to my Father’s face. I only wonder if He will forgive me knowing that in my mind I already know that I will repeat the same errors? I place my trust in Jesus’ blood and God’s unending grace (Matt 18:12 and Rom 5:8).

Addendum: For Lenten reflections visit the Upper Room  or the American Catholic.

Gonna find yourself somewhere, somehow?

I love the song “Put Your Records On” by Corinne Bailey Rae.  For some reason though, when she gets to the part where she sings “You’re gonna find yourself somewhere, somehow” I’m like… yeah.. right.. not happening to me lady. That melody is so catchy but I cannot help but think, “I don’t know how to let my hair down, I don’t know to have fun, I don’t know where “me” is anymore”.

Holy God We Praise Thy Name

This hymn has the capacity, every time,  to drown my senses and bring with a vision of what it might be to stand in the presence of the Almighty. The other song that has the effect on me is Chris Rice’s, Deep Enough. Lovely words……

Goa Pictures

Amazing pictures of Goa here. This was the village I was born in. I remember countless summer holidays running on this very beach next to the copper colored rocks in one of the pictures. Asvem has (I think) one of the few unspoilt beaches in this beautiful state.
